Sometimes we look at our bathrooms and have no idea where to start when it comes to decorating them. Like many things in life, you just need to break the big job of ‘decorating the bathroom’ into smaller manageable tasks. Once you’ve got your color scheme and theme down you can go from there.
Here are a couple of my favorite finds you can include and do in your bathroom, starting with fixtures:
Fixtures
Lights
I tend to like fixtures that stand out against the wall color so I naturally gravitate to black, but you do you! I found some simple elegant wall light fixtures that would look great in bathrooms above mirrors and would be noticeable without taking too much attention:
Wall Hooks
Your towels have to hang somewhere, right? So, pick out some wall hooks that you like, whether they are simple, bold and modern like some below, or have a little character and age that would suit a farmhouse type of feel. Again, in my case, if I found some that I really liked that weren’t black one option would be to spray paint them. *DIY HACK*!! (this goes for toilet paper holders and hand towel holders too).
Also, if you’re low on space, you could find some with added storage to them as well like some below:
Shelving and Storage
Talking about storage, if you have a small bathroom, here are some Over-The-Toilet options
which would look great and provide you with the extra space you need!
And apart from that you could always install shelves as well.
Faucets
There are lots of types of faucets to choose from out there. Simple and sleek does it for me, and so here are a few I thought would look great in any bathroom (some of them come in different colors):
Decoration
Mirrors
They say a round mirror is always a great idea for a bathroom... I agree! But there are always those rectangular mirrors that seem to be the right fit for a bathroom as well. One good example is if you have a vanity with two sinks and then you have this large wall space above them - a large rectangular mirror would look fantastic there. So go with your gut, figure out your preferences, and if you want to get a little fancy you could always find a mirror with lights that shine around the rim ;).
Plants
Introducing plants into your bathroom is a great way to get more natural beauty and color (and let's not forget oxygen if they are real plants) in the room. Having long drooping plants on your shelves can really draw the eye in, creating a focal point and plants generally make it feel more homey. Then of course, there are other plants like succulents and smaller potted greenery options which would look beautiful on your vanity countertop or shelves too.
Vases, Jars and Containers
These are objects that generally look good in most places, whether they are in a group or stand alone. Let your accent colors guide you and help you decide on the elements you want use so that the color scheme runs throughout the bathroom, but don't be afraid to have one or two items that stand out.
Vases:
Jars and Containers (dispensers can be found in the Furn & Dec store)
'The Rule of 3' is a great way to organize things. So one idea is to have a vase, a jar and a flowerpot (or any other decorative object you like), varying in different heights, and arranged on one side of a shelf or countertop, leaving room for other bigger things like baskets or frames.
Frames and Trays
Picture frames and decorative trays are other decorative items you could add to your shelves and can really make your bathroom feel more chic and high-end. Scenic pictures work well in bathrooms, but even if you don't have pictures a beautiful frame might be all that's needed.
Trays can help you keep your bathroom looking glamourous and/or organized. Here are a couple that could sit upright on a shelf or be used on your vanity top:
Organization
I am a fan of organization, texture and any natural material that's woven, so here are a couple of smaller shelf baskets and cabinet baskets that you could use to organize items in your bathroom.
Shelf organizers
Cabinet organizers
Shower Curtains
There are some lovely shower curtains out there that can really make an impression in a bathroom. I like to have a shower curtain that contrasts with its backsplash. So, if the walls is light, I would find a shower curtain that has bold elements of my accent colors, and if the walls are dark a lighter colored shower curtain would be the way to go. But, it could still work well if you're just using one or two colors in your room. See what works for you!
Bathroom Mats
Who doesn't love a lovely soft mat to step onto? Bathroom mats can also be considered decorative elements. One way to use it this way is to get some that match up with something in your bathroom, such as the color of some accent pieces you might have added, or they can even go along with the main color you have gone with in your room!
There's more DIY projects you could do with your bathroom, but that's for a different blog post. I hope these tips can get you started on creating bathroom spaces you love!
