Maximize The Potential Of Your Living Room Layout

Organize your living room space in the best way for you, no matter how much room or space you have and get the satisfying feeling of creating a great space for your family and friends.

Welcome to another Furn & Dec post, and if you're struggling with what kind of furniture you need in your living room or how to arrange your furniture, I hope this post can help you solve your problems. A living room is where people gather, relax, and have never-ending conversations, and so, to create a space that allows that here are a few tips you could use:

Conversational area

When you start thinking of how you would like to arrange your living room, the best thing you can do is think of it a conversational area, and to make that happen, you would want you and your guests to face each other. Figure out where your focal point in the room is, whether it is the tv or a fireplace, or perhaps the amazing view you might have and arrange your furniture to surround that focal point.

Angle your seating towards a central area where a coffee table might be and make sure you have extra surfaces like side tables, especially if there is a too much of a distance between a chair and the coffee table.

Largest Wall

To maximize your living room space, especially in a smaller space, place your largest piece of furniture along the longest wall and position your accent chairs on the corners of it or against the sides and this will open up the space with is great for the family and allows mobility to move around.

Furniture Layout

Another way to arrange your furniture is to do the opposite of what was mentioned before, which is to have your furniture floating and not anchored to a wall.

This is best for an open-space living area. A sofa can act as a room divider with its back against the kitchen or dining room area and it helps to create a natural walkway that directs guests on where to go. If you have enough space and would rather not see the back of your sofa, you could always place a slim console table against its back and decorate it to make it visually appealing to you.

Sectionals

Whether you are a fan of them or not, sectionals can make a small room seem larger and helps to maximize every inch of space, so you can end up getting more seating. They definitely help to anchor a room, especially around a tv of fireplace.

If you are going for a more casual feel, a sectional would give you that, most probably more than a normal sofa and chairs. Measure the length and width of your living room and see what is the largest sectional you can get in there.

So, before you start making decisions on the design and furniture of your living room, ask yourself these questions:

How do you live? How do you want the space to function? What is the focal point of the room? Then design around that. Start with comfortable seating and the rest will follow.
